Awards
I have mixed feelings about competitions and the value of ‘ranking’ artwork so I enter few competitions. The Natural Landscape Photography Awards is the exception as it aligns well with my values.

Photographic Journey
I have been playing with cameras for as long as I can remember and have travelled to many remote parts of the country but my early attempts at photographing the landscape lacked connection. I began with the assumption that landscape photography is all about places but over time it has developed as a way to reflect on the natural world and to express the stories we share together. I feel that truly beautiful photographs move beyond beauty, they embed themselves within and remind us of the things that matter most.
The process of making photographs and prints in my studio has become an integral part of the artwork and experience.
Influences
I have always been inspired by the natural world and my earliest memories are of outdoor adventures with my family.
Back in the 70’s, Dad built a secret hut in the bush. It has since burned down but remains listed on maps of the Victorian high country. As a kid we would stay there, absorbed in the sounds of the bush with possums and march flies for company. To this day I can still recall the scent of gum leaves and the crisp alpine air as I played in the scrub, barely able to see above the vegetation to the mountains beyond.
Since those early days I’ve worn a few hats. I’ve jumped from aircraft with the army, I’ve designed & tested vehicles as an engineer, and I now bridge the gap between artist and engineer with my work as a photographer and fine-art printer. My work with other artists has opened up a world that ties in beautifully with my own landscape photography.
